Nikola Jokic delivered a stern rebuke to Denver Nuggets fans who booed the team during a historic comeback victory in their home opener. Speaking at the postgame press conference, the three-time MVP addressed the hostile atmosphere that greeted the squad as they trailed 53-30 in the second quarter and entered halftime down 73-57. Despite the early deficit, the Nuggets mounted a remarkable offensive surge to secure the win, but Jokic made it clear that the lack of support from the stands was unacceptable.
The MVP’s blunt message to Denver supporters following a historic second-half surge.
The center’s message to the boisterous section of the arena was direct and final. “We got booed at our first home game, and I think those fans who booed us, they don’t need to come anymore,” Jokic stated. He emphasized the team’s resilience, noting that dedicated followers understand the Nuggets’ capacity to overcome significant deficits. “If you guys follow us, you know that we never quit and we’ve come back from much worse situations,” he added, firmly concluding that such negativity is no longer tolerated within the franchise’s culture.
This incident marks a pivotal moment in the relationship between the Nuggets and their fanbase, highlighting the tension between high expectations and the reality of a competitive season. While the team demonstrated its trademark grit to reverse a 16-point halftime deficit, Jokic’s comments signal a new standard for conduct at Ball Arena. By drawing a hard line against booing, the star center aims to foster a more supportive environment, ensuring that future struggles are met with encouragement rather than criticism.
