Florida State football suffered a crushing defeat against No. 3 Miami, losing 43-35 in double overtime at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17. The loss extends the Seminoles’ (3-4, 1-3 ACC) road losing streak to 12 games, significantly increasing pressure on head coach Mike Norvell. Despite a spirited second-half comeback led by quarterback Ashton Daniels and wide receiver Duce Robinson, FSU could not overcome Miami’s explosive offensive output in the final minutes.
Controversial call ends Seminoles’ rally as road woes deepen
Daniels emerged as the offensive engine after running back Ousmane Kromah exited with a left ankle injury in the second quarter. The quarterback finished with 298 passing yards, 32 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown. His most critical play came late in the fourth quarter when he connected with Robinson for a 75-yard score, forcing the game into overtime. In the first extra period, Daniels replicated the success with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Robinson, keeping FSU alive despite trailing 35-35.
The game hinged on a controversial call in the second overtime. Down 43-35, Daniels appeared to throw a 4th-and-31 touchdown to Robinson, but officials ruled the pass intercepted by Bryce Fitzgerald, despite both players having hands on the ball. Miami capitalized on the turnover, scoring two quick touchdowns to seal the victory. Miami’s Darian Mensah completed the dominant performance with 326 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, showcasing why the Hurricanes remain a top-three contender in the ACC.
