Arkansas-Pine Bluff dismantled Bethune-Cookman in a historic rout, capitalizing on catastrophic defensive errors to secure a 63-21 victory at Simmons Bank Field. The Golden Lions established an insurmountable lead early, jumping out to 28-0 in the first quarter and extending the deficit to 49-0 by halftime. This performance marked a significant upset, as UAPB recorded the first 56 points of the contest, effectively ending any competitive threat from the Wildcats before the final quarter began.
Five interceptions and a 49-0 halftime deficit defined a historic collapse for the Wildcats.
The primary driver of the blowout was Bethune-Cookman’s inability to protect the ball, resulting in five interceptions that directly fueled UAPB’s offensive surge. The Golden Lions converted these turnovers into momentum, including a pair of pick-sixes in the opening half that widened the gap rapidly. The Wildcats’ passing attack was particularly volatile, with three different quarterbacks attempting passes. Joel Morris was intercepted on both of his throws, and punter Isaac Gallagher-Cheetham also threw an interception, compounding the defensive struggles.
Despite the lopsided score, Bethune-Cookman managed to limit the final margin through late-game scoring. Cordan Patterson, who completed seven of 13 passes for 108 yards, connected with Myles Morales on a 16-yard touchdown pass with one minute remaining in the third quarter. Patterson and Deanwar Johnson each added rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, while Jaydis Wiley contributed 72 yards on 6-of-15 passing. However, these efforts were insufficient to overcome the early deficits, leaving the Wildcats with a difficult reset as they navigate a challenging season.
