VJ Edgecombe delivered another clutch performance for the Philadelphia 76ers, sinking a decisive step-back three-pointer with 36.2 seconds remaining to extend their lead to 105-101. This marked the second consecutive night the rookie guard took over late in a close contest, following his game-sealer against the New York Knicks on Friday. By isolating Charlotte Hornets wing Grayson Allen, Edgecombe created separation and drained the shot that gave Philadelphia the breathing room needed to close out the 109-104 victory.
Despite a 4-for-13 shooting night, the rookie’s late-game heroics seal a crucial road victory.
Despite the heroics, Edgecombe struggled from the field for the majority of the game, finishing with just 4-of-13 shooting. The Hornets executed their defensive plan effectively, applying physical pressure to force difficult looks and keep the explosive guard off his rhythm. However, Edgecombe’s ability to elevate his game in high-leverage moments proved decisive, allowing the Sixers to manage the final possessions despite his overall inefficient scoring output.
Reflecting on his performance, Edgecombe acknowledged his struggles while emphasizing his commitment to the team. “I owed the team that,” he told reporters in Charlotte. “I mean, I was having a rough game. Everything was short, missing a lot.” The win highlights Edgecombe’s growing confidence and clutch gene, proving that even on nights when the shot isn’t falling, he can deliver when the stakes are highest.
