The United States Grand Prix enters its decisive phase as the field converges on Circuit of the Americas for the final practice session, with rivals sharpening their pencils to dismantle Ferrari’s dominant weekend form. After a qualifying session that saw the Scuderia lock out the front row, the pressure is on Mercedes and Red Bull to extract every tenth of a second from their setups before the lights go out for the race. This final opportunity to test tire degradation and cooling strategies is critical, as the high-speed nature of COTA demands precision in every corner.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton aim to close the gap as the Austin showdown intensifies
Data from the morning sessions indicates a tight battle for pole position, with lap times clustered within a 0.5-second window across the top ten. Ferrari’s consistent pace has forced competitors to rethink their fuel loads and brake bias settings, particularly in the high-G turns 1 and 16. Engineers are now focusing on aerodynamic adjustments to mitigate understeer in the final sector, a known weakness for several challengers in previous Austin races. The stakes are elevated as the championship battle tightens, making this practice session a de facto dress rehearsal for the race strategy.
Viewers can follow every development in real-time via Sky Sports F1, which is broadcasting live updates and exclusive video analysis from the pit lane. Key takeaways from the session will include the final confirmation of starting grid positions and any last-minute strategy shifts by team principals. As the sun sets over Austin, the focus shifts from raw speed to tactical execution, with drivers preparing for a race that could define the latter half of the season. Fans should keep an eye on the weather radar, as any change in conditions could drastically alter the competitive landscape in the final hours.
