East Hampton girls soccer capped a perfect 17-0-0 campaign by defeating No. 3 Old Saybrook 1-0 at Blythe Field in Deep River. The victory secured the Bellringers their first Shoreline Conference championship since 2006, redeeming a previous season where they went 17-0 but fell short in the final. With ten starters returning from last year’s squad, the team displayed the maturity and tactical discipline required to convert their undefeated record into a tangible trophy.
Bellringers end 17-0 season with historic title, snapping 18-year drought
Junior Olivia Correia, named Shoreline Player of the Year, orchestrated the decisive play with 5:50 remaining in the first half. Correia dribbled past multiple defenders before delivering a precise assist to fellow junior Ava Ploszay. Ploszay finished the sequence by scoring past Old Saybrook goalkeeper Amarra Holmes, giving East Hampton the 1-0 lead they would defend for the remainder of the match. The goal highlighted the team’s ability to create high-quality chances under pressure in a tightly contested final.
The win marks a significant milestone for the program, which joined the Shoreline Conference in 2006 after leaving the Charter Oak Conference. Correia emphasized the team’s intense drive to overcome last year’s heartbreak, stating, “We were, like, hungry for it… we knew that no one was going to give it to us, so we had to come out and work really hard.” This championship validates the Bellringers’ consistent excellence and establishes a new benchmark for future East Hampton squads.
