Dallas Cowboys analyst RJ Ochoa, who serves as the manager and editor-in-chief of “Blogging The Boys” at SB Nation, issued a scathing critique of head coach Brian Schottenheimer following Sunday’s 33-30 overtime defeat to the Arizona Cardinals. Ochoa labeled the result one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history, arguing that Schottenheimer is “directly responsible” for the team’s recent struggles. The analyst explicitly urged the front office to fire the coach, stating bluntly that the organization “goes nowhere with him” and that Schottenheimer is “so in over his head.”
RJ Ochoa calls 33-30 OT loss to Cardinals an “embarrassing” franchise blunder
The Cowboys squandered a commanding position in a game that saw them lead 24-10 in the fourth quarter. Dallas built an early cushion after James Mitchell recovered a Javonte Williams fumble in the end zone in the first quarter, followed by Dak Prescott’s nine-yard touchdown pass in the second. Despite holding a 14-3 halftime lead and extending their advantage late in the game, the Cowboys failed to close out the contest, allowing the Cardinals to force overtime and ultimately steal the win at home.
This loss marks a sharp decline from the team’s 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles the previous week, highlighting a lack of consistency that Ochoa attributes to Schottenheimer’s leadership. By failing to capitalize on a significant lead against a lower-tier opponent, the Cowboys have intensified internal scrutiny regarding their coaching direction. Ochoa’s public call for Schottenheimer’s termination underscores the growing frustration among analysts and fans who believe the current coaching regime is hindering the franchise’s potential for a deep playoff run.
