Kirk Cousins delivered a vintage performance in Henderson, Nevada, guiding the Las Vegas Raiders to a 38-33 victory over the New York Jets after falling nine points behind midway through the third quarter. The quarterback, known for historic rallies including the 2015 Tampa Bay game and the 2022 Indianapolis record, remained composed under pressure to secure the win. This result snapped a four-game losing streak, returning the Raiders to a .500 record and showcasing Cousins’ ability to execute clutch drives when the stakes are highest.
From ‘You Like That?’ to a 38-33 win, Cousins defies Mendoza narrative as Vegas hunts .500.
Cousins finished the game with three touchdown passes and a rushing score, cementing his status as the team’s primary offensive engine. His 19 touchdown passes rank second in the league, a statistical anomaly that has silenced early doubts about first-round pick Fernando Mendoza taking over the starting role. The veteran’s continued dominance suggests the Raiders will rely heavily on his experience and arm talent as they navigate the second half of the season, with no immediate plans to shift the starting quarterback position.
The upcoming schedule presents a significant test for Las Vegas, featuring three formidable opponents: San Francisco, Seattle, and Denver. Head Coach Klint Kubiak praised Cousins as a “real blessing,” emphasizing that the team is not satisfied with its current standing and aims to improve. With the season at its midpoint, the Raiders must leverage Cousins’ heroics to overcome these tough matchups, proving that their recent resurgence is sustainable and not merely a product of one vintage comeback.
