Brayden Shorter silenced the Demons’ offense with a career-defining performance, dropping 29 points to lead Murray State to a decisive 93-71 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday. The Racers (2-0) dominated the contest with elite perimeter shooting, as Shorter drained eight of his 12 three-point attempts while finishing 10 of 16 from the field. His efficiency provided the offensive engine for a team that looked poised to control the pace from the opening tip.
Racers explode for 19-point second-half surge to secure second straight win
The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the second half, where Murray State outscored Northwestern State by 19 points to turn a slim halftime lead into a comfortable win. After trailing by just one point early in the third quarter, the Racers executed a crucial 7-0 run to establish a six-point cushion. Shorter fueled this surge with a team-high 20 points in the second half, while Jonas Boulefaa added 13 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night, including three three-pointers.
For the Demons (0-3), Kai Simpson’s 24-point effort was not enough to overcome a sluggish team performance. Northwestern State struggled from deep, with Roman Domon shooting just 4-for-16 from the floor and 0-for-8 from three-point range, despite collecting 17 points and nine free throws. Nathan Ojukwu provided some spark with 15 points and six assists, but the Demons’ inability to contain Murray State’s perimeter attack ultimately sealed their third loss of the season.
