Rebeca Andrade proved that even at half-strength, the Brazilian gymnast remains the gold standard in women’s vault. Competing in the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships final in Rotterdam on Oct. 24, Andrade claimed the title by out-executing a pair of American rivals. Despite performing two downgraded versions of her Olympic routines, her technical precision was unmatched, securing a decisive victory over the U.S. contingent and adding another major international title to her resume.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The podium was dominated by American talent, with Claire Pease claiming silver for her first individual world championship medal. Pease attempted the highest difficulty vault of the final, a “Cheng” named after legendary Chinese gymnast Cheng Fei, but her score was eclipsed by Andrade’s consistency. Rounding out the podium was Skye Blakely, the newly crowned world all-around champion, who took bronze. This marked Blakely’s second individual medal of the championships, complementing her all-around gold and solidifying her status as a dominant force in the current cycle.
Andrade’s performance was a testament to her resilience following a complete competitive hiatus in 2025 to recover from injuries sustained during her four-medal haul at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She returned to form at the 2026 Pan American Championships in June, winning vault gold and helping Brazil secure team silver. In Rotterdam, her stellar average execution score of 9.3665 across two vaults dwarfed the marks given to Pease and Blakely, demonstrating that superior execution remains the ultimate key to vault supremacy.
