The Los Angeles Rams have officially waived special teams returner Alex Bachman, signaling a decisive pivot in their approach to the return game. The move addresses specific deficiencies in acceleration, top-end speed, and elusiveness that prevented Bachman from establishing himself as a reliable long-term solution. While Bachman demonstrated the ability to secure the football—a fundamental requirement—the coaching staff determined that his limitations in hitting openings quickly and making defenders miss in space hindered his potential to turn promising blocking schemes into explosive plays.
Los Angeles seeks elite speed and elusiveness to fix a critical roster weakness.
This roster adjustment underscores the Rams’ urgent need to improve field position dynamics, a phase where Los Angeles has struggled to generate consistent positive results. The organization recognizes that a viable returner must do more than just catch the ball; they must possess the athleticism to change the course of the game. By moving on from Bachman, the Rams are prioritizing a player capable of leveraging their blocking units to create big plays, a critical component for a team aiming to dominate the special teams battle.
Looking ahead, the Rams will evaluate both internal options and the available free agent market to identify their next specialist. The coaching staff may turn to existing roster players with experience handling kickoffs or punts, with wide receiver Tutu Atwell emerging as a notable internal candidate due to his natural speed. As the team continues to refine its roster, the search for a dynamic returner remains a high-priority objective to ensure the Rams can maximize every possession.
