David Benavidez has officially declared his December 5 bout against Poland’s Michal Cieslak the most significant challenge of his professional boxing career. The undefeated 32-0 contender will defend his WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles while attempting to capture Cieslak’s WBC belt, a victory that would unify all three major world titles in the division. The high-stakes unification fight is scheduled for Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, strategically located near Benavidez’s Phoenix roots, where he continues to train by running six miles on South Mountain.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The matchup pits Benavidez’s aggressive style against Cieslak, who holds the WBC championship. Benavidez expressed his competitive nature during a Friday press conference at Vee Quiva Casino, stating, “I’m looking for the hardest fight. If you give me a hard fight, that means a fun night for me.” The Phoenix native emphasized his readiness to adapt to any strategy Cieslak employs, asserting that he will be 100 percent prepared to handle the pressure of a unified title defense.
Benavidez’s connection to the Phoenix area remains strong, with his father, José Benavidez Sr., now owning the Central Boxing Gym near the State Capitol where the brothers began their careers. Although the family has established a new base in the Seattle-Tacoma area, the decision to host the fight in Arizona underscores the personal significance of the event. Fans can attend an open workout on November 7 at Vee Quiva Casino to get a final look at the champion before the unification clash.
