Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding confirmed that star running back Kewan Lacy will miss this week’s matchup against Auburn after dislocating his shoulder in the Rebels’ 34-27 loss to Texas. The injury is particularly concerning for the Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC), who travel to Oxford next week for a pivotal SEC contest. While Lacy’s immediate absence is confirmed for the Auburn game, the recurring nature of the shoulder problem places his availability against Georgia in serious jeopardy, potentially altering the power dynamics in the SEC East division.
Rebels’ star RB suffers recurring shoulder issue, casting doubt on SEC title hopes
This is the third time in two seasons Lacy has dealt with this specific shoulder injury, having first suffered it during last year’s College Football Playoff victory over Tulane. Although he played through pain to help Ole Miss reach the CFP semifinal, he required offseason surgery. The fragility of his shoulder was evident earlier this season when he missed the game against Florida due to a similar injury sustained in the win over LSU. His return for the Texas game proved short-lived, as the dislocation occurred during the contest, highlighting the physical toll the position takes on his frame.
Lacy’s potential absence would be a massive blow to Ole Miss’s offensive identity, as he delivered a breakout sophomore campaign in 2025 with 1,567 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns on 306 carries. He has already made a significant impact this season, accumulating 388 yards and five touchdowns. His history against Georgia is notable, as he rushed for 31 yards and two scores in the regular-season loss and added 98 yards and two more in the Sugar Bowl victory. If Lacy is sidelined for the Bulldogs, Ole Miss will need to rely heavily on its supporting cast to keep their SEC championship aspirations alive.
