Neymar has publicly expressed his admiration for Chelsea’s Estêvão Willian following the young Brazilian’s standout performance in Saturday’s victory over Manchester United. The 19-year-old made his first Premier League start of the campaign, delivering a scintillating display that electrified the home crowd and silenced critics who had questioned his impact after being sidelined for much of the season. Neymar, a long-time hero of Willian’s, took to social media to heap praise on the youngster, highlighting the maturity and technical brilliance on display during the match.
The 19-year-old’s Premier League debut performance has the Brazilian legend in awe.
Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that the decision to start Estêvão was a calculated risk that paid off, describing it as the “best response” from the player. Speaking via football.london, Alonso revealed that he informed Estêvão of his starting role following the previous match against Tottenham, giving the young star crucial preparation time. “Sometimes I can’t give you all the info before the game,” Alonso admitted, emphasizing the strategic element behind the selection. The manager’s trust in Estêvão’s ability to handle the pressure of a high-profile fixture proved justified as the midfielder controlled the midfield tempo against the Red Devils.
This performance marks a significant turning point for Estêvão Willian, who has struggled to secure consistent minutes earlier in the season. By stepping up in a critical moment against a top-tier opponent, he has not only secured his place in the starting XI but also garnered the respect of global icons like Neymar. The win against Manchester United serves as a definitive statement of intent for Chelsea, signaling that their youth project is yielding immediate, high-quality results. As the season progresses, Estêvão’s ability to maintain this level of performance will be the key factor in Chelsea’s title ambitions.
