The New York Giants (4-2-1) delivered a statement performance on Sunday, dismantling the Houston Texans (2-5) in a 27-21 overtime upset. The victory validated the summer’s strategic pivot to the Jaxson Dart offense, with rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy emerging as a poised, veteran-like leader. McCarthy demonstrated elite arm talent and pocket mobility, completing 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards with a pristine 99.1 QB rating. His efficiency was defined by zero turnovers and zero touchdowns, showcasing a balanced approach that kept Houston’s defense guessing while setting the stage for a decisive late-game surge.
Big Blue’s offense clicks as rookie QB and triple-back attack secure 27-21 road victory.
The Giants’ ground game proved equally lethal, with all three running backs finding the end zone to create a dynamic, multi-dimensional attack. Cam Skattebo anchored the backfield with a massive 124-yard haul, while Devin Singletary sealed the win with a 30-yard touchdown run in overtime. Tyrone Tracy Jr. also scored, highlighting the committee’s effectiveness as the unit averaged 5.5 yards per carry. On the perimeter, Malik Nabers extended his streak to four consecutive 100-yard games with 111 yards on seven receptions, and rookie Malachi Fields contributed 83 yards, providing a reliable secondary target alongside tight end Thomas Fidone’s crucial 29-yard reception.
Despite allowing seven quarterback hits and three sacks, the offensive line managed to open substantial running lanes as the contest progressed, a testament to their adaptability against Houston’s pass rush. A special mention goes to kicker Jameis Winston, whose four successful tush-push attempts—including one for a touchdown—provided critical points and momentum shifts. This comprehensive offensive display signals a team that has found its rhythm, combining quarterback precision with a potent running game to secure a vital road win.
