Memorial’s status as the most successful high school girls soccer program in Southern Indiana was cemented on Saturday, Oct. 31, as the No. 1 Tigers defeated No. 10 Guerin Catholic 3-0 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. This victory marks the program’s seventh IHSAA Class 2A state championship, placing them second all-time behind only Carmel. For head coach Angie Lensing, the win secured her sixth state title, also ranking second all-time in program history, and capped a season defined by relentless consistency and tactical precision.
Tigers dominate state final with 3-0 shutout, extending historic dynasty under Angie Lensing
The Tigers’ postseason dominance was statistically staggering, finishing the tournament with a 20-2-1 record and outscoring opponents 43-1 across seven victories. Memorial allowed just one goal in the entire bracket, a penalty kick in the regional final, while surrendering zero goals in open play. This defensive fortitude allowed the team to eliminate five consecutive ranked opponents, showcasing a depth and resilience that few high school squads can match. The offensive efficiency was equally impressive, as the Tigers controlled the tempo and capitalization on errors to dismantle their final challenger.
The decisive moment arrived midway through the first half when a Guerin Catholic goalkeeper mishandled a goal kick, delivering the ball directly to Avery Slade. Slade collected the loose ball and calmly beat the approaching defender to open the scoring, setting the tone for a comprehensive shutout. This play highlighted Memorial’s ability to convert defensive mistakes into immediate scoring opportunities, a hallmark of their championship pedigree. As the final whistle blew, the Tigers celebrated another historic chapter in their storied program, leaving no doubt about their supremacy in the state.
