The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 119-114 home defeat to the Golden State Warriors revealed a growing fracture in the locker room, highlighted by visible sideline tension involving center Rudy Gobert. During a timeout, video footage captured LaMelo Ball and forward Jonathan Kuminga loudly confronting Gobert, signaling deep frustration with his defensive and offensive contributions. The incident occurred in the Timberwolves’ first game following the injury absence of star guard Anthony Edwards, a loss that exposed the team’s inability to maintain its early-season momentum against a depleted Warriors roster.
Frustration boils over as Wolves center struggles without Anthony Edwards
Gobert’s recent performances have been statistically abysmal, fueling the on-court animosity. In the previous 127-125 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he shot 0-for-9 from the field, drawing visible ire from Edwards. That struggle continued against Golden State, where Gobert went 0-for-4 from the floor and suffered two blocks, one from Draymond Green and another from Yaxel Lendeborg. His final statline of one point, four rebounds, and one block underscores a player who appears overwhelmed by the increased offensive responsibility in Edwards’ absence.
The Warriors capitalized on this internal discord, with Stephen Curry delivering a 44-point masterclass to secure the win. For Minnesota, the loss marks a sharp decline from the positive vibes that defined their first week of the season. The visible conflict between Ball, Kuminga, and Gobert suggests that the Timberwolves face a critical challenge in managing roster chemistry and defensive accountability as they navigate the season without their primary scoring engine.
