Kao Miura delivered a commanding performance in Shenzhen, China, to claim the men’s figure skating title at the Cup of China on Sunday. The 21-year-old Japanese skater secured a decisive victory with a personal-best free skate score of 190.35, which combined with his short program lead to produce an overall career-high total of 293.25. This result capped a historic weekend for Japan, as compatriot Chiba Mone had already claimed the women’s title the previous day, resulting in a complete Japanese sweep of the event’s individual medals.

Miura posts career-best 293.25 to edge out Dikidzhi and secure top spot

Miura’s dominance was evident as he finished nearly 11 points ahead of the competition. Vladislav Dikidzhi took second place with a score of 282.44, marking his first career Grand Prix medal, while Evgeni Semenenko rounded out the podium in third with 281.62. The victory marks a significant rebound for Miura, who finished second at the Grand Prix de France earlier in the season. His consistent high-level execution allowed him to extend his lead from Friday’s short program into a comfortable win on the final day.

Reflecting on his achievement, Miura described the day as “very happy,” citing it as the best performance of his career. He specifically referenced a past setback at the Grand Prix Final in China three years ago, where illness hindered his performance. With this year’s Grand Prix Final also scheduled for China, Miura stated he is focused on redemption and aims to carry this momentum into the season’s concluding major event. Fellow Japanese skater Sato Shun, an Olympic bronze medalist, finished fourth with 277.20 after struggling with a few popped jumps.
