The San Jose Earthquakes failed to break their five-match winless streak, settling for a 2-2 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night. Jack Jasinski and Reid Roberts both found the back of the net for San Jose, but the team could not convert their efforts into a victory. The result leaves the Earthquakes with 49 points, keeping them in fifth place in the Western Conference, just two points behind Houston and St. Louis, who are tied for third.
San Jose’s five-game winless streak persists despite late drama and red cards
Colorado’s Morgan Whittaker opened the scoring in the 26th minute, marking his second consecutive game with a goal. He rolled a low shot from the center of the area past goalkeeper Angus Gunn to level the score at 1-1. Later in the match, Darren Yapi, who entered as a substitute for Whittaker in the 63rd minute, gave the Rapids the lead. Yapi received a pass from Georgi Minoungou, cut back to evade a defender, and fired a shot from the left side of the area that slipped inside the near post to make it 2-1 in the 73rd minute.
The match took a dramatic turn in the final ten minutes when Timo Werner received a straight red card in the 71st minute, leaving the Earthquakes a man down. However, the numerical advantage was short-lived, as Colorado’s Kosi Thompson was also shown a straight red card in the 75th minute. Despite the chaotic finish, neither team could capitalize on the reduced numbers, resulting in a point apiece. The draw keeps the Rapids in seventh place with 43 points, while San Jose remains stuck in the middle of the pack.
