The Indy Ignite have officially charted their course toward a historic back-to-back championship, unveiling their 2027 Major League Volleyball (MLV) regular-season schedule on Friday. As the defending regular-season champions, the team enters its third year in the league with a clear objective: to defend their title against a significantly tougher field. The season kicks off on January 9 with a road matchup against the Orlando Valkyries, followed by a highly anticipated home opener at the Fishers Event Center on January 17 against the Vegas Thrill.
Reigning champs face four new rivals in expanded 26-game league
The 2027 season marks a pivotal expansion for MLV, which has added four new franchises: DC Flight, Los Angeles Thunder, NorCal Rumble, and Minnesota Forge. This growth increases the regular-season slate to 26 games and introduces a conference structure, placing the Ignite in the East alongside Atlanta, Columbus, DC, Grand Rapids, and Orlando. The Ignite’s early February slate features critical tests against these new entrants, including a home date with NorCal Rumble and a road clash with Minnesota Forge, signaling that the path to the playoffs will be contested by fresh, hungry competitors.
Despite the heightened competitive landscape, the Ignite retain a formidable core, returning 12 players from the squad that set franchise records last year. This continuity provides a stable foundation for the team to adapt to the new conference dynamics and increased travel demands. With the schedule now public, fans can begin planning for the January 17 home debut, where the reigning champions will look to establish early dominance in a league that is rapidly evolving into a national powerhouse.
