India series drive record Cricket Australia revenue despite Ashes blow

Cricket Australia posted record revenue of A$601.1 million ($423 million) for the 2025-26 financial year, driven primarily by lucrative media rights deals for the Ashes and the limited-overs series against India. The governing body reported a net surplus of A$81.8 million ($57 million), marking a sharp turnaround from the A$11.3 million net loss recorded in the previous fiscal year. This strong commercial performance was underpinned by record audiences and robust match-day income during the international season.

White-ball success offsets A$20m loss from two-day Tests as CA faces projected deficits

However, the financial triumph was tempered by a significant revenue hole estimated at A$20 million, caused by two Ashes Tests that concluded inside two days last summer. While the men’s home series against England and the white-ball contest with India generated record media and commercial returns, the shortened Test matches severely impacted ticket sales and broadcast value. CA noted that these unexpected losses contributed to a challenging financial outlook, with the organization now preparing for projected deficits in both the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years.

Looking ahead, Cricket Australia anticipates a cyclical decline in media rights and match revenues aligned with the international touring schedule. Despite the immediate surplus, the governing body faces a period of financial contraction as it navigates these projected losses. The financial results do not yet account for the anticipated sale of stakes in some domestic franchises, which could provide additional liquidity to offset the coming deficits.
