The Houston Comets have officially confirmed that Rachid Meziane will remain as head coach following the franchise’s relocation from Connecticut. According to USA Today, the 46-year-old coach will continue to helm the organization’s rebuilding efforts, signaling a commitment to long-term development over immediate playoff contention. Meziane took over the Sun at the start of a significant rebuild, guiding the team through a challenging period characterized by a 22-66 record over the last two seasons.

Despite the difficult win-loss record, Meziane emphasized the team’s growth and resilience during his tenure. Speaking to media ahead of the Sun’s final game in September, he noted, “If you followed us during this season, I hope that you can say that we have shown a lot of resilience during this year because it was a tough season. But we never gave up. We stayed together, we stayed connected, and we developed.” This philosophy of unity and developmental focus appears to be the cornerstone of the Comets’ strategy as they launch their new era in Texas.
Meziane brings extensive international experience to the WNBA, having previously coached clubs in his native France and served as the head coach of the Belgium national team. His retention is part of a broader organizational stability push, as former Sun general manager Morgan Tuck and president Jennifer Rizzotti have also stayed with the franchise through its move to Houston. By keeping key leadership figures in place, the Comets aim to maintain continuity while unveiling their new branding and establishing a competitive identity in their new market.
