Glentoran Football Club has officially confirmed the appointment of Duncan Ferguson as its new First Team Manager, signing the 54-year-old on a multi-year deal to lead the side at The BetMcLean Oval. The move signals a significant step up for the Belfast club, as Ferguson arrives with a distinguished career that spans high-profile playing stints and extensive top-flight coaching experience. His arrival marks a pivotal moment for the Lads in Blue, who are seeking to elevate their competitive standing through the strategic vision of a manager well-versed in the demands of the Premier League.
Premier League veteran brings elite coaching pedigree and tactical depth to The Oval.
Ferguson’s tenure at Everton is central to this appointment, having served as Assistant Manager to Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benítez while also taking caretaker charge on two occasions. His tactical acumen was evident during his first caretaker spell in December 2019, where he guided the Toffees to a victory over Chelsea and secured draws against Manchester United and Arsenal. A UEFA Pro Licence holder, Ferguson progressed through Everton’s coaching structure over more than a decade, working under Roberto Martínez, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, and Marco Silva, ensuring he possesses a comprehensive understanding of modern football management.
To support Ferguson, Glentoran has appointed Gary Bollan as Assistant Manager, reuniting the pair who previously worked together at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and as teammates at Dundee United. Bollan brings a strong track record of success in Scottish football, having guided Livingston to successive promotions and Forfar Athletic to promotion via the play-offs, while also managing Airdrieonians and Cowdenbeath. This leadership duo combines Ferguson’s elite tactical background with Bollan’s proven ability to drive promotion campaigns, creating a robust framework for Glentoran’s future ambitions.
