ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reports that the Los Angeles Rams are positioned to move cornerback Emmanuel Forbes ahead of the November 10 trade deadline. The suggestion follows the team’s aggressive offseason moves to acquire Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, which effectively eliminated Forbes’ starting role. Fowler notes that while the Lions and other contenders are actively seeking corner coverage, the Rams view Forbes as a viable asset to offload given the current depth chart.
Crowded secondary and sharp drop in snaps signal end of Forbes’ tenure in LA
The statistical decline underscores the urgency of a potential trade. After starting 14 of 17 games in 2024 with three interceptions and 45 tackles, Forbes has seen his defensive snap share plummet from 73% to just 25% this season. He has appeared in all eight games but has not recorded a start, logging only nine tackles and two passes defensed. With the emergence of nickel defender Josh Wallace further crowding the room, Forbes lacks a clear path to meaningful playing time unless McDuffie or Watson sustain significant injuries.
As a 2023 first-round pick, Forbes possesses the physical tools and range to contribute at a high level, but his current role is limited to a rotational spot. The Rams’ decision not to pick up his fifth-year option earlier this year signaled a shift in their long-term plans for the cornerback. A trade before the deadline would allow Los Angeles to maximize his value while addressing the surplus in their secondary, offering Forbes a fresh start with a team in need of immediate help.
