The Dumont family has officially secured controlling ownership of the Dallas Mavericks following the acquisition of Miriam Adelson’s shares. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the transaction was completed last month, granting Sivan and Patrick Dumont a combined 69% ownership stake in the franchise. This move solidifies their position as the primary decision-makers for the NBA team, marking a significant shift in the club’s corporate structure since the initial sale.
Sivan and Patrick Dumont secure 69% stake, cementing long-term Dallas commitment
The ownership transition maintains deep familial ties within the organization, as Patrick Dumont has served as the Mavericks’ governor since the families jointly purchased the team from Mark Cuban in 2023. Notably, Sivan is Adelson’s daughter, while Patrick is her son-in-law, ensuring continuity in leadership despite the change in equity distribution. Although Adelson has divested her shares, her connection to the franchise remains strong through these direct family links, preserving the collaborative dynamic established during the 2023 acquisition.
Mark Cuban, who sold the Mavericks to Adelson at a $3.5 billion valuation in 2023, retains a 27% minority interest in the team. While Cuban has publicly expressed regret over the sale, the Dumonts are focused on future growth and infrastructure. Patrick Dumont emphasized the family’s commitment to Dallas, stating they are investing in “the best arena in the NBA” to serve as the team’s 40-year home. The new controlling owners aim to leverage this significant capital investment to enhance fan experiences and drive the franchise toward championship contention.
