Deni Avdija anchored a dominant Portland Trail Blazers performance, scoring 26 points while dishing out six assists and grabbing six rebounds to secure a 128-120 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday. The win marks the Blazers’ second straight victory, improving their record to 2-0, while the Kings drop to 0-2 following their disappointing home opener. Avdija’s all-around game was pivotal, but he was supported by a balanced attack that kept Sacramento’s defense off balance throughout the contest.
Portland’s third-quarter surge dismantles Sacramento’s home opener hopes
The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter after Portland struggled from deep in the first half, hitting only 4 of 22 three-pointers. The Trail Blazers erupted for a 15-0 run to erase a 12-point deficit, capped by a crucial three-pointer from Toumani Camara that put Portland ahead 74-64. Portland’s shooting efficiency spiked in the final two periods, as they drained 8 of 19 three-point attempts in the third quarter alone, completely neutralizing Sacramento’s early lead.
Despite a valiant effort from Sacramento, the Kings could not sustain their offensive rhythm. Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. exploded for 33 points, and Domantas Sabonis recorded a 27-point, 19-rebound, 10-assist triple-double, with Zach LaVine adding 22 points. Damian Lillard and Camara also contributed 19 points each for Portland, showcasing a resilient team effort that ultimately proved too much for the Kings to overcome in their season-opening home game.
