Top-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team dismantled Bemidji State 4-1 on Friday in Columbus, extending their dominant run in the WCHA. Despite a spirited effort from the Beavers, the Buckeyes’ offensive depth proved too much to handle, with four different players finding the back of the net. The loss drops Bemidji State to 1-8 on the season and 0-7 in conference play, highlighting the significant gap between the two programs as Ohio State continues its pursuit of a perfect regular season.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
Freshman forward Davina Davis continued her impressive scoring streak for Bemidji State, burying her third goal of the season to keep the Beavers within striking distance. Assisted by Morgan Smith and Talya Hendrickson, Davis now leads BSU in scoring with three goals and one assist across nine games. However, her individual brilliance could not offset the team’s defensive struggles, as sophomore goaltender Sophia Villanueva faced a barrage of 34 shots, making 30 saves in a losing effort.
The Buckeyes’ victory was powered by a standout performance from Warroad High School graduate Rylee Bartz, who scored twice in the win. Bartz, who transferred from St. Thomas ahead of the 2026-27 season, opened the scoring in the second period with assists from Kaia Malachino and Alida Korte, before adding a power-play goal two minutes into the third period. Ema Tothova opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first period, while Kassidy Carmichael added the fourth goal, assisted by Jordan Baxter, who also provided a key assist on Bartz’s second goal. Rowan Houweling secured the win for Ohio State, stopping 15 of 16 shots.
