Daniel Dubois has officially set his sights on a trilogy bout with Oleksandr Usyk following a dominant, second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley at The O2 Arena. The WBO heavyweight champion dismantled Wardley in a rematch that saw the underdog dropped after just 17 seconds before referee Steve Gray halted the contest. This decisive victory serves as a crucial coming-of-age moment for Dubois, signaling that he has matured into a fighter capable of handling elite-level pressure and establishing himself as the division’s premier contender.
Heavyweight champion claims he has the tools to finally beat the Ukrainian great.
Dubois expressed unwavering confidence that he now possesses the necessary skills to overcome his previous two losses to Usyk. “Definitely, definitely – I’d love that,” Dubois stated regarding the potential trilogy. “We’re coming out on top this time. We’ve made our mistakes and we’re coming out on top.” The British heavyweight emphasized his desire to carry the momentum from the Wardley win into his next engagement, asserting that he is ready to fight whoever is next in line, prioritizing both competitive challenge and financial reward.
The path to a third fight against Usyk remains complex, as the Ukrainian great recently vacated the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles following his late stoppage victory over kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in May. However, Usyk has indicated he intends to continue fighting, with promoter Frank Warren actively working to reintegrate him into the heavyweight equation. With Dubois now firmly positioned at the top of the division and Usyk seeking a return to the spotlight, the stage is set for a potential blockbuster that could define the heavyweight landscape for years to come.
