Beachside volleyball etched its name into Florida high school history Wednesday night by securing a spot in the first-ever FHSAA Open Division match hosted in Northeast Florida. The Jaguars delivered a commanding performance against Naples First Baptist, dropping only one set in a 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18 victory. This milestone event marks a significant shift for the region, elevating the profile of local volleyball programs to a statewide spotlight that has previously been reserved for South Florida venues.
Historic Northeast Florida stage sets the scene as tiebreakers cloud a dominant Beachside win.
Despite the historic nature of the contest, the outcome felt bittersweet for Beachside due to the FHSAA’s complex tiebreaker scenarios. Coach Austin Lanteigne emphasized that the team’s focus remained on executing at a high level rather than obsessing over external variables. “They’re going to take pride in competing at a high level and playing well, so all the other stuff is really ancillary,” Lanteigne stated. “We can’t really control that.” This mindset allowed the squad to maintain composure on the court, ensuring they controlled their own destiny through performance rather than speculation.
The result leaves Beachside in a precarious position regarding its final four status, while the Clay County duo advances with momentum. As the tournament progresses, the Jaguars must now navigate the remaining brackets with the knowledge that their path is no longer solely dependent on their own wins. The stage is set for a dramatic conclusion, where every point will matter in determining which teams ultimately claim the state title.
