Chivas de Guadalajara dismantled a struggling Atlante side with a commanding 4-2 victory, officially securing their berth in the Liga MX Liguilla. The match showcased a stark contrast in form, with Chivas displaying overwhelming superiority to claim their first solid win in recent weeks. The decisive result propels the Rojiblancos into the postseason, ending a period of inconsistency and setting the stage for a strong playoff run.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The first half highlighted Chivas’ tactical adjustments and clinical finishing. Manager Matías Almeyda surprised observers by starting Roberto Alvarado as a lone striker, with Ángel Sepúlveda and Ricardo Marín starting on the bench. Chivas’ goalkeeper Raúl Rangel made an early crucial intervention, stealing a through ball from Atlante’s Joaquín Moxica to prevent a goal. The breakthrough came when defender Diogo Bagui misjudged a long ball, allowing Santiago Sandoval to control the ball in the area. Sandoval capitalized on the defensive error, firing a right-footed shot past Atlante goalkeeper Óscar Jiménez to give Chivas an early 1-0 lead.
With the win, Chivas climbed to a temporary tie for first place in the standings, though their final position depends on the results of Club América and Cruz Azul. The victory provides significant momentum as Chivas prepares to travel to face León next week. Atlante, meanwhile, will host Santos Laguna in their final home match of the regular season, looking to salvage some pride after a disappointing campaign. For Chivas, the focus now shifts entirely to the high-stakes knockout rounds.
