The Chicago Cubs celebrated a historic defensive night as center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and third baseman Alex Bregman were named Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners. Crow-Armstrong secured his second consecutive title in center field, outperforming Los Angeles Dodgers’ Andy Pages and Atlanta Braves’ Michael Harris. Bregman’s victory marks his second career Gold Glove, following his 2024 win with the Houston Astros, and cements his status as a premier defender in the National League.
Chicago’s defensive core secures Rawlings honors as Bregman joins Ron Santo’s exclusive club.
Bregman’s achievement carries significant historical weight, as he becomes the first Cubs third baseman to earn the award since Hall of Famer Ron Santo in 1968. Bregman edged out Dodgers’ Max Muncy and Marlins’ Javier Sanoja to claim the honor at the hot corner. The defensive excellence extended beyond the major leagues, with top prospect Josiah Hartshorn winning the minor league Gold Glove as the best defensive first baseman across all levels of the minors.
While the Cubs had three other finalists, they fell short in their respective categories. Four-time winner Ian Happ lost to Milwaukee Brewers’ Jackson Chourio in left field, while Seiya Suzuki was outpaced by Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll in right field. Shortstop Dansby Swanson, a two-time winner with Atlanta, lost to D-Backs’ Geraldo Perdomo. Despite these losses, the Cubs’ defensive unit remains one of the most decorated in baseball, with two major league Gold Gloves and a minor league standout signaling a strong defensive foundation for the future.
