The Central Texas high school football landscape shifted dramatically in Week 9 as Jarrell suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 28-6 to defending Class 4A Division I state champion Stephenville. The loss in the District 12-4A DI showdown ends the Cougars’ perfect record and intensifies the pressure on the region’s remaining undefeated squads. With the 2026 playoffs approaching, Cedar Park (9-0), Wimberley (7-0), and Thorndale (8-0) now face critical Week 10 matchups to maintain their spot in the top tier of the district standings.
Jarrell’s first loss and Westlake’s rivalry win reshape the playoff picture.
In a pivotal district rivalry clash, Westlake delivered a decisive victory over Lake Travis, securing a crucial win that solidifies their position in the district race. The game featured standout defensive play from Westlake, highlighted by defensive back Thomas Jackson, whose performance was instrumental in stifling the Panthers’ offense. This result not only boosts Westlake’s morale but also complicates Lake Travis’s path toward a strong postseason finish, as the district standings begin to crystallize ahead of the final regular-season weeks.
As the season enters its decisive phase, the focus turns to the remaining undefeated teams and their ability to withstand late-season challenges. While Jarrell’s loss opens the door for competitors in District 12-4A DI, the broader Austin area sees a clear hierarchy emerging with top-tier teams like Cedar Park and Wimberley maintaining dominance. Analysts note that these Week 9 results are setting the stage for intense Week 10 battles, where every possession will count as teams vie for favorable playoff seeding and home-field advantage.
