Bloom-Carroll volleyball shattered its own historical curse on Thursday, Nov. 5, by rallying from a first-set deficit to defeat Sheridan 25-21, 25-10, 25-19 after dropping the opener 22-25. The Bulldogs, who entered the Division III regional semifinal with a 20-4 record, had previously dropped all four of their regular-season losses by surrendering the first set and getting swept. This time, however, the team maintained composure and executed a decisive comeback at Westerville South High School, securing a vital victory to advance to the Elite Eight.
Bulldogs break losing streak pattern with gritty comeback in delayed regional semifinal
The match was marked by logistical challenges, as a ceiling leak in the new gym forced officials to delay the start by over an hour and relocate the game to the old gymnasium. Despite the disruption, Bloom-Carroll’s resilience shone through. Junior Kylee Reiser emphasized the team’s strategic adjustment, noting that they prioritized communication between points to maintain cohesion. “We knew that we had to come out with more energy after the first set,” Reiser said. “We made a point at the end of the season to come together between points so we could be connected as a team.”
With this win, the Bulldogs have earned a spot in the regional championship game on Saturday, Nov. 7, at noon. They will face either Granville or Toledo Notre Dame Academy in a match that determines who advances to the state tournament. The upcoming contest will again be held at Westerville South, where the team must replicate their ability to stay the course under pressure to continue their postseason run.
