BYU has officially claimed the top spot in the Big 12 football power rankings, securing an undisputed No. 1 status following a thrilling 28-24 victory over Notre Dame. This conference-validating win, driven by Bear Bachmeier’s performance, shifts the narrative for the Big 12, which has faced significant perception challenges this season. By defeating a major national brand in dramatic fashion, the Cougars have demonstrated that the conference possesses a legitimate contender for multiple College Football Playoff berths, provided BYU maintains its current trajectory.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The rest of the conference landscape remains volatile, with Texas Tech looking as sharp as any team in the 2025 landscape after dismantling Arizona State. Tech’s dominant performance raises the question of whether they can sustain this level of play, particularly as they prepare for a critical matchup against the Wildcats in two weeks. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have finally reconnected with their fanbase, as Cougar supporters returned to the stadium to witness an important victory that stabilizes their season.
Conversely, the Arizona State Wildcats face a precarious situation, as they cannot afford to overlook the Iowa State Cyclones in their upcoming schedule. With Texas Tech looming, the Wildcats must secure a win against the Cyclones to keep their own playoff hopes alive. As the Big 12 continues to fight for respect on the national stage, BYU’s leadership at the top of these power rankings provides the conference with the credibility it desperately needs to compete with the SEC and Big Ten.
