Bradley Barcola has addressed the skepticism surrounding his £123m transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, insisting that supporters are beginning to appreciate his specific skill set. In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz at Liverpool’s AXA training facility, the French winger acknowledged the initial slow start that fueled familiar concerns among the Anfield faithful. However, Barcola emphasized that he is not attempting to replicate the immediate, high-volume output of past marquee signings, urging patience as he integrates into Arne Slot’s system.
The £123m winger breaks his silence on early struggles and his unique role at Anfield.
The context of Barcola’s arrival is heightened by the sheer scale of Liverpool’s recent investment, with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz joining in deals totaling up to £241m. While Isak has recently begun delivering on his goal-scoring potential and Wirtz is still finding his rhythm, Barcola’s early struggles have drawn comparisons to other high-profile signings who took time to acclimatize. The winger clarified that his role is distinct from that of a traditional number nine or a pure playmaker, noting that his contribution is evolving as he understands the demands of the Premier League better.
Barcola explicitly rejected comparisons to Mohamed Salah, stating, “I’m not Mo Salah,” while highlighting the different dynamics of his game. As Liverpool prepares to face Crystal Palace this Sunday, with kick-off at 2pm, the focus remains on whether Barcola can translate his growing confidence into consistent impact. The club’s attacking depth is undeniable, but the jury is still out on how quickly the £123m signing will unlock his full potential alongside his new teammates.
