Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), has officially designated Alycia Baumgardner as the new “face of women’s boxing.” The bold declaration comes at a pivotal transition point for the sport, following the recent retirement of Irish icon Katie Taylor and the impending departure of multi-divisional champion Amanda Serrano. By identifying Baumgardner as the primary figurehead for the next era, Bidarian aims to consolidate the division’s narrative around a young, high-profile American talent who can sustain global interest as the current generation of superstars steps away.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The timing of this strategic move is precise, aligning with the end of two historic careers. Taylor cemented her legacy with a victory at Croke Park in Dublin in September, while Serrano is scheduled to retire in January on home soil in Puerto Rico. These two fighters have dominated the headlines for over a decade, creating a significant gap in star power that promoters are eager to fill. Bidarian’s comments suggest that MVP is preparing to elevate Baumgardner’s profile significantly, leveraging the vacuum left by Taylor and Serrano to establish her as the next undeniable main event.
In an interview with The Independent, Bidarian carefully balanced respect for the past with ambition for the future, stating, “I look at it as: Katie and Amanda are the queens of women’s boxing, and they will forever be the queens.” This distinction acknowledges the legacy of the retiring champions while firmly positioning Baumgardner as the active leader of the current landscape. With MVP’s substantial media reach and the competitive pressure from other major promoters, Baumgardner’s path to becoming the division’s primary draw is now officially on the record, setting the stage for a new hierarchy in women’s boxing.
