Julián Alvarez delivered a decisive strike just after halftime to secure a 1-0 victory for Atlético Madrid over Deportivo A Coruña at the Metropolitano. The goal, which effectively served as an apology for a sluggish first half, was the only bright spot in a match where the hosts struggled to impose their will. Despite the low-scoring nature of the game, the result extends Atlético’s impressive La Liga winning streak to six consecutive matches, underscoring their growing consistency in the domestic campaign.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The victory propels the Rojiblancos to within two points of league leaders Barcelona, intensifying the title race narrative. Atlético have now gone eight games unbeaten across all competitions, recording seven wins and one draw. This performance marks their third-best start to a league season after ten fixtures. With the upcoming Clásico looming, this narrow margin highlights how a single result could significantly alter the early-season standings and momentum between the two giants.
However, the path to victory was far from smooth, as Atlético displayed a noticeable lack of urgency and creativity in the opening 45 minutes. The team managed only seven shots, none of which seriously threatened Deportivo goalkeeper Leo Román, while missing the aerial presence provided by the absent Jonathan David. Deportivo actually posed the greater threat, with Lorenzo Amatucci missing a close-range tap-in from a Yeremay Hernández free kick. Despite the defensive resilience and Alvarez’s crucial intervention, the performance suggests Diego Simeone’s side still has work to do before facing the league’s top side.
