Aldershot Town have secured a permanent deal with former Arsenal academy defender Josh Robinson, significantly strengthening their defensive options ahead of the upcoming FA Cup campaign. The 21-year-old right-back, who previously featured for Wigan Athletic and Kidderminster Harriers, has been integrated into the squad to provide immediate depth for Saturday’s first-round tie against Barnsley. This move signals the club’s intent to compete at a higher level by locking down a player who has already demonstrated his readiness for senior football.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
Robinson’s arrival follows a strong initial impression during his time training with the team, culminating in a starting appearance against Ipswich Town Under-21s in the National League Cup on Tuesday. Manager Scott Davies praised the defender’s work ethic and tactical understanding, noting that Robinson has “really impressed” the coaching staff over the past few weeks. By making the signing permanent before the cup match, Aldershot ensures they have a reliable option on the right flank, addressing a key area of the pitch that often dictates possession and defensive stability in tight lower-league encounters.
The addition of Robinson provides Aldershot with a versatile and experienced option for the right-back position, crucial for navigating the physical demands of the National League and the unpredictability of the FA Cup. With the Barnsley fixture looming, Davies now has a proven performer ready to step in, offering a tactical alternative that could be decisive in a high-stakes knockout game. This strategic reinforcement underscores the club’s commitment to building a resilient squad capable of handling the pressure of cup competitions while maintaining competitiveness in league play.
