Adrian Kempe returned from an undisclosed injury to immediately dominate the ice, recording a hat trick and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings dismantled the San Jose Sharks 7-2 on Wednesday night. The veteran forward struck early, scoring just 1:23 into the contest before adding a second goal to help establish a commanding 3-0 lead after the first period. Kempe completed his historic performance with a power-play marker with 4:09 remaining in the second period, showcasing the Kings’ lethal special teams unit which converted three of five opportunities.
Kempe breaks franchise record while Byfield and Panarin fuel dominant LA performance.
The Kings’ offensive explosion was a team effort, with Quinton Byfield scoring twice and Artemi Panarin supplying four assists to drive the attack. Erik Haula and Joel Armia also found the back of the net, while goaltender Darcy Kuemper anchored the defense with 30 saves. This multigoal performance marked Kempe’s 37th such game with the franchise, moving him past Dustin Brown for sole possession of ninth place in Kings history. The victory snapped any potential momentum for the visitors and highlighted LA’s depth as they look to solidify their standing in the Western Conference.
For San Jose, the loss extended their skid to three consecutive games, despite a valiant effort from goaltender Yaroslav Askarov who stopped 20 shots. The Sharks managed to score through Macklin Celebrini and Ivar Stenberg, both of whom found the net on the power play with assists from Erik Gustafsson. The game also served as a milestone for San Jose, marking the NHL debut for defenseman Eric Pohlkamp, who was called up from the AHL just hours before the puck drop.
