Bruno Fernandes has forcefully rejected media narratives suggesting a personal rift with Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, labeling recent reports as “a lot of lies.” The 32-year-old Portugal international clarified that his benching following the European defeat at Como was strictly tactical, citing “poor performances” rather than any off-field conflict. This statement comes as United navigated a turbulent period where speculation over Carrick’s job security intensified amid a nine-game winless streak across all competitions.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The narrative shifted dramatically on Tuesday night as Fernandes stepped up to the penalty spot to seal a crucial victory over Roma in the Champions League. United’s comeback from two goals down not only secured three vital points but also snapped the club’s long winless run, providing immediate relief to a squad under intense scrutiny. Fernandes’ goal was pivotal in a high-stakes fixture that tested the resilience of Carrick’s side, proving that the team could recover from significant deficits on the European stage.
Despite the victory, Fernandes acknowledged that the club has had to navigate a “tough” period filled with media misinformation. However, the captain emphasized his continued belief in Carrick and his teammates, asserting that the group remains united in its mission to turn the season around. By dismissing the “clear-the-air talks” rumors, Fernandes aims to refocus attention on the pitch, signaling that the squad is ready to move past the recent adversity and rebuild momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
