The Arizona Diamondbacks delivered a stunning defensive performance in the 2026 Gold Glove Awards, with three of their four nominees claiming the prestigious honor. Gabriel Moreno secured his second career Gold Glove at catcher, joining Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop and Corbin Carroll in right field. This collective achievement ties the franchise record for most Gold Gloves in a single season, matching the 2019 campaign when Nick Ahmed, Zack Greinke, and David Peralta earned the distinction. The only Arizona player to fall short was utility infielder Ildemaro Vargas, who was eliminated in the final three for the utility category, with the award ultimately going to Atlanta’s Mauricio Dubón.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
Corbin Carroll’s victory stands out as a testament to his elite defensive instincts, particularly given his modest offensive output this season. Despite batting .239 with 22 home runs, Carroll anchored the right side of Chase Field by leading all Major League right fielders with +10 Outs Above Average (OAA). Advanced metrics strongly support his selection, with Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) rating him at +12, a figure that ranked second in the National League. His ability to cover ground and make critical plays allowed him to overcome a down year at the plate, securing his first Gold Glove and cementing his status as a two-way star.
Geraldo Perdomo and Gabriel Moreno also marked significant milestones in their careers with these awards. Perdomo captured his first Gold Glove, validating his status as one of the league’s premier shortstops, while Moreno claimed his second honor, having previously won the award in 2023. The Diamondbacks’ success in this category highlights a team-wide commitment to defensive excellence, proving that even in a season with mixed offensive results, their fielding prowess remains a top-tier asset in the National League.
