Bayern Munich were minutes away from securing a vital 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena, but a 89th minute goal from substitute Fabio Silva secured a point for the visitors. As was the case for a lot of key moments in the match, there was some controversy in the buildup to Silva’s goal, as Konstantinos Karetsas stepped on Aleksandar Pavlović’s foot resulting in the midfielder staying down for quite some time, but Karetsas was deemed to have won the ball first, so Silva’s goal stood.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The late dagger for Bayern undid what had been a valiant effort against the odds of having lost Ismael Saibari, Serge Gnabry, and even Michael Olise to injury during the match and Lennart Karl struck the crossbar right at the death, which would’ve been a sensational end to the match. However, it just wasn’t to be and Bayern will take the point, move on, and remain at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Konrad Laimer was officially voted Man of the Match on the official Bundesliga app (via @iMiaSanMia). He scored Bayern’ first goal of the match with an excellent bit of defending having stepped up, won the ball, played a give and go with Olise, and put home his rebound after Gregor Kobel had saved his initial effort. Even before and after his goal, the Austrian was a solid presence for Bayern on both sides of the ball and gave Dortmund plenty of trouble down the right flank. He also came close to scoring a second goal midway through the second half, but Kobel stood firm to the task.
