The Peoria Javelinas navigated a turbulent second week in the Arizona Fall League, finishing with a 2-3 record that dropped them to fourth place in the standings. A rainout forced the rescheduling of a game to an off day, disrupting the team’s rhythm and leaving them 2.5 games behind the co-leading Scottsdale Scorpions and Surprise Saguaros. Despite the setback, the Javelinas remain competitive with a 5-6 overall record, though the gap to the top of the table highlights the need for immediate offensive and defensive adjustments as the season progresses.
Kannon Kemp and Winyer Chourio face command issues as Peoria struggles to maintain pace.
On the mound, San Diego Padres right-hander Kannon Kemp delivered a mixed start on Oct. 10, pitching three innings while allowing four runs on four hits, including two home runs, while striking out three batters. Later in the week, RHP Winyer Chourio struggled significantly with his command during his Oct. 14 start. Chourio lasted only 2.2 innings, issuing six walks and three wild pitches in 59 pitches, with just 25 strikes recorded. The performance underscores ongoing command issues for the pitcher, who had a breakout 2025 season but has faced consistency challenges during parts of the 2026 campaign.
In the bullpen and at the plate, the Javelinas found some stability. Reliever Francis Peña pitched a perfect inning without surrendering a hit, run, walk, or strikeout, while lefty Igor Gil contributed 1.2 innings with three strikeouts, one hit, and two walks. Offensively, outfielder Alex McCoy continued his power surge, hitting his second home run of the AFL season in two games. Infielder Justin DeCriscio added two RBIs, and catcher Ty Harvey also recorded two runs, providing the team with modest offensive production despite the overall weekly slump.
