Second-seeded Meyersdale avenged its regular-season defeat by third-seeded Windber with a decisive 21-14 victory in the District 5-1A football semifinal on Friday, Nov. 6. Junior running back Caleb Sines powered the Rams’ offense, rushing for 110 yards and scoring two total touchdowns to secure the win. The victory sends Meyersdale to the District 5-1A title game, where the team aims to replicate its success from the previous season.
Caleb Sines and Cooper Porter lead Rams’ revenge tour to title game
The game featured a significant emotional return for senior Cooper Porter, who had missed the bulk of the season due to a knee injury sustained in Week 4 against Windber. Porter primarily contributed on defense before stepping into an offensive role late in the third quarter when senior Spencer Whitfield suffered a knee injury. Porter made an immediate impact, rushing for 34 yards on eight carries and scoring a crucial two-yard touchdown with 5:52 remaining to extend the Rams’ lead.
Sines expressed satisfaction with the team’s ability to overcome their earlier loss, highlighting the significance of Porter’s return against the team that originally injured him. “This feels really good, especially to get them back after they beat us in the regular season,” Sines said. “To get Cooper back against the team that hurt him and see him score a touchdown, this feels really nice. Now, we are just going to try and do what we did last year.” The Rams now focus on defending their district championship as they advance to the final.
