Jamestown High School volleyball concluded its regular season with a decisive 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 sweep of Mandan on Tuesday, locking in a 16-2 record and the No. 2 seed for the upcoming West Region Tournament. Although the Blue Jays secured the victory, head coach Sara Hegerle expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s execution, noting that the match lacked the dominance expected of a top-tier squad. “I just feel like we’re not reaching our potential yet,” Hegerle told 107.1 FM, emphasizing that while Mandan is a gritty and well-coached opponent under Anna Folk, Jamestown must learn to “pick it up and take it to teams” more consistently.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The contest featured a tense opening set where Mandan held a five-point lead before Jamestown rallied to tie the score at 14. Hegerle identified defensive lapses as the primary issue, stating that the team was “letting balls drop” and failing to maintain proper positioning, which caused difficult digs to go off their arms. “We talked on the bench about how we need to defend more aggressively,” the coach explained, highlighting the need for sharper reflexes and better court coverage to neutralize Mandan’s fighting spirit.
With the WDA Tournament set to take place at Jamestown High School from Nov. 12-14, the Blue Jays have one week to refine their game. Hegerle remains confident that her squad can elevate its performance in time for the postseason, stating, “I hope that in a week, we will be there.” As the No. 2 seed, Jamestown will look to convert its regular-season resilience into tournament dominance, aiming to eliminate the defensive inconsistencies that nearly cost them against a competitive Mandan squad.
