The Baltimore Ravens entered Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a quarterback situation that defied conventional logic, centered on undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. With franchise cornerstone Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley both placed on injured reserve, Fagnano is set to make his first career NFL start despite a significant right ankle injury. The visual evidence of his condition—a massive, cumbersome wrap covering his right foot—immediately drew the attention of NFL observers and fans alike, raising urgent questions about the viability of the team’s new starter.
Social media erupts as undrafted rookie’s heavy ankle wrap highlights Baltimore’s QB crisis
Social media reaction was swift and visceral, with the pregame footage shared by the Ravens sparking a wave of comparisons to winter footwear. Notable NFL voice Devin Jackson highlighted the absurdity of the situation on X, noting, “Ravens got Joe Fagnano wearing an Ugg boot on his right foot, it’s so #over.” The widespread mockery and concern underscore the unprecedented depth crisis in Baltimore, where the organization is forced to rely on a rookie playing through a low hit taken from Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver during Sunday’s 36-10 loss.
This matchup represents a critical stress test for the Ravens’ offensive line and Fagnano’s own durability. While the “moon boot” appearance may seem humorous in isolation, it signals a desperate measure to field a competent quarterback against a formidable Jacksonville defense. The NFL world is watching closely to see if Fagnano can manage his mobility constraints and deliver a competitive performance, or if the injury will prove too much to overcome in his debut.
