Following back-to-back wins at home over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday and the Miami Heat on Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers traveled north to visit the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. They looked to build a three-game winning streak with a four-game road trip that starts this weekend on the horizon.
Defense wins ugly game as Lakers force 18 turnovers and extend winning streak to three
They got off to a sluggish start, especially on the defensive end, but they started to shift into gear and took a 61-54 lead at halftime. A 14-2 run near the end of the third quarter gave the Lakers a double-digit lead and control of the game, and they didn’t allow Sacramento back into this game, resulting in a 116-103 win for them.
This wasn’t a pretty game for the Purple and Gold. While they limited themselves to 12 turnovers, they shot just 44.9% from the field and 31.6% from 3-point range. But they won this one with defense. They held Sacramento to 38.9% overall shooting and 31.6% from 3-point land, and they forced 18 turnovers, which they turned into 23 points. Los Angeles also held a 21-11 edge in fast-break points.
