Michigan football has officially lost a key piece of its 2027 recruiting class, as three-star offensive tackle Sidney Rouleau decommitted from the Wolverines over the weekend. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound prospect from Brook Hill School in Bullard, Texas, pledged to Michigan in March but has since shifted his allegiance, reportedly taking a visit to Syracuse during the break. Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong confirmed the decommitment, marking a significant setback for a program that has struggled to maintain stability on the offensive line this season.
Wolverines lose top-2027 OL prospect as offensive line struggles continue
Rouleau was rated No. 52 nationally at his position and No. 577 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports, representing a high-value target for Michigan’s rebuilding offensive line. His departure leaves the Wolverines with only three committed offensive linemen for the 2027 cycle: four-star tackle Jakari Lipsey, four-star interior lineman Lincoln Mageo, and three-star interior lineman Louis Esposito. With Michigan currently sitting at 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten play, the on-field struggles of the current offensive unit likely accelerated Rouleau’s decision to explore other options.
Despite the loss, Michigan retains the No. 18 ranked class of 2027 with 21 total verbal commitments. However, the decommitment highlights the ongoing challenges faced by head coach Sherrone Moore in recruiting elite talent to a program dealing with recent performance issues. As the Wolverines look to stabilize their offensive line, the loss of a highly rated three-star tackle underscores the need for immediate improvement on the field to retain future commitments and attract top-tier recruits.
