Longwood launched its basketball campaign with a commanding performance, dismantling Pfeiffer 123-67 in a decisive opener at Farmville, Virginia. The Lancers controlled the pace and intensity from the opening tip, establishing a massive lead that proved insurmountable for the Falcons. This emphatic win sets a high benchmark for the program as it enters the competitive season, showcasing a balanced attack that overwhelmed Pfeiffer’s defensive efforts throughout the contest.
Jaylen Benard leads Lancers with 14 points and 10 rebounds in blowout victory
Jaylen Benard anchored the Longwood frontcourt with a double-double, scoring 14 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. His interior presence was complemented by versatile contributions from the backcourt, where M.J. Williams finished with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Williams shot efficiently, going 5-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from deep. Elijah Thomas also contributed significantly, scoring 12 points on impressive 5-for-6 shooting, including two three-pointers, to provide a sharp offensive spark for the Lancers.
On the other side, Pfeiffer’s Drake Stewart led the Falcons with 12 points, while Antoine Piper added 11 and Sunni Wrice chipped in with eight. Despite these efforts, the gap in execution was too wide to close. Looking ahead, Longwood will test its depth against Saint Joseph’s (Pa.) on Wednesday, while Pfeiffer travels to face High Point on Monday as both teams seek to adjust and find their rhythm in the early stages of the season.
