Bloomer’s Aliya Hartman delivered a historic performance at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, shattering the Division 1 girls’ state meet record at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The senior clocked a blistering 17:16.6, obliterating the previous mark of 17:26.4 set by Menomonie’s Lauren McCalla last fall. This dominant finish not only secured Hartman the individual championship but also marked a milestone for her program, as she became Bloomer’s first-ever individual girls’ state champion in cross country.
Bloomer senior Aliya Hartman breaks 17:26.4 barrier to claim historic individual title
The Hartman sisters showcased their depth as they swept the top three spots in the individual standings. Ciara Hartman finished third in 17:44.5, while Briella Hartman placed 13th, demonstrating the family’s collective strength on the course. Despite this individual brilliance, the Bloomer Blackhawks narrowly missed a podium finish as a team, accumulating 149 points to place fourth overall. They finished just two points behind third-place Menomonie, highlighting how close the competition remained among the state’s top programs.
Menomonie’s squad was led by freshman Veronica Molback, who finished 31st in 19:04.6, providing a strong anchor for their team effort. Sophomore Lauren Ohman followed in 43rd, with senior Bella Drake in 44th and junior Addison Schuler in 52nd. The event underscored the rising talent in Wisconsin high school cross country, with Hartman’s record-breaking run setting a new benchmark for future competitors in the Division 1 girls’ race.
